Parador de El Hierro
Isolated parador on the black-sand bay of Las Playas, El Hierro
Las Playas, El Hierro
Why we picked it
The Parador de El Hierro stands alone on the wide black-sand bay of Las Playas, between a volcanic mountainside and the Atlantic, on the east coast of El Hierro. It suits travellers who want quiet and sea views on the Canaries' smallest main island, but note that its pool and wellness area are currently closed.
The Parador de El Hierro is part of Paradores, Spain's state-owned hotel chain, and occupies a stretch of the large black-sand bay of Las Playas, set between a volcanic mountain and the ocean. There is little else around it, which is the point: this is a place for sea views and silence rather than nightlife.
Before booking, check the current situation of the facilities. When checked in October 2026, Paradores stated that the outdoor pool is closed because the sea is eroding its structure, and that the gym, sauna and jacuzzi were closed too. The restaurant remains open and serves Canarian cooking with local fish and El Hierro cheese broth; on Booking.com the hotel lists buffet breakfast with gluten-free options.
Location
Las Playas lies on the east coast of El Hierro, in the municipality of Valverde, the island capital. Paradores notes that the island has about 46 dive sites with water between 18 and 25 °C, and La Restinga in the south is the island's main base for diving. The natural pool of Charco Azul is on the north-west coast. A car is essential here; island roads are winding, so allow extra time.
